CREATING A TRADITION
We are a family of avid quilters. Quilting is more than a way to pass the time or create a "useful" object. It is a passion.
My mother taught me to combine colors and patterns as she had learned from her mother and grandmother. She often advised me to "throw in" a color that would surprise. I practice that advice often. The time-honored quilt patterns I frequently use are typical of those used years ago in this beautiful area of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The patterns are reminiscent of years gone by and I feel, tie us to our roots. This merging and fusion of colors, mixed with the geometry of traditional patterns, creates a pizzazz that is irresistible. My quilts often include William Morris fabrics, modernized by Moda. They are a delight to work with as their patterns are highly creative and unique. (William Morris hand printed textile designs in the 1880's and 90's.) Sewing has been a life-long love of mine. I have been sewing for over five decades. For over thirty years I taught fabric construction and sewing. Now, in retirement, I have time to focus exclusively on the art of quilting. |
